01 — The work

What goes into a walkways project.

The walkway is the first thing a visitor's feet touch. It's also the project most likely to fail when a cheap contractor cuts the base. We don't.

We install paver, flagstone, brick and natural stone walkways across Northern Virginia. Every one starts with a properly excavated and compacted base — the part you can't see and the part that determines whether it still looks right in 2046.

Designs are drawn around your house, your landscaping, and the way you actually use the space. Wider near the entry, curved through the garden, straight along the side yard — we design before we dig.

06 — Questions

5 answered
What materials do you offer?+

Concrete pavers (Belgard, Techo-Bloc, EP Henry), flagstone (Pennsylvania, Tennessee), brick (clay and concrete), and natural stone slabs. During the design walk Nelson recommends what fits the architecture and the budget — and we bring physical samples so you see the real color, not a photo.

Do walkways need maintenance?+

Very little. Paver walkways need polymeric sand re-application every 5–8 years on average. Flagstone and brick are essentially maintenance-free if the base was done right. Occasional pressure washing keeps anything looking new.

Can you match existing landscaping?+

Yes — that's most of what we do. We match the color and material of existing patios, driveways or stonework on the house. If something on the property is older and weathered, we age the new material to blend in.

How long do paver walkways last?+

A properly built paver walkway in Northern Virginia routinely lasts 25–40 years. The pavers themselves outlive that — failure points are almost always poor base prep or missing edge restraints, which is exactly what we engineer for.

Do you handle base preparation?+

Always. Every walkway we install is excavated to subsoil, fitted with geotextile fabric where needed, then built up with compacted aggregate base — usually 4 inches for foot traffic and more for heavy use. It's the most important part of the job and the part most contractors short-cut.
