Outdoor Kitchens

01 — The work

What goes into a outdoor kitchens project.

An outdoor kitchen earns its cost when it's a place you actually cook — not a showpiece you avoid because the grill is awkward and the prep counter is in the sun. We design ours around how you'll really use it.

Most of our outdoor kitchen builds in McLean, Vienna and Great Falls anchor around a built-in grill, a stone-veneer counter with granite or quartzite cap, storage cabinets, and a side burner. Refrigerators and sinks add cost but earn their keep when the kitchen is more than 20 feet from the back door.

Materials are spec'd for Virginia weather — full-thickness stone veneer, freeze-resistant mortar, stainless-steel components rated for outdoor use. We coordinate licensed gas and electric contractors for the utility connections.

06 — Questions

5 answered
What's typically included?+

A built-in grill, stone-veneer counter with stone cap, and storage cabinets are the baseline. Most clients add a side burner. Refrigerators, sinks, ice bins, kegerators and pizza ovens are options we walk through during the design — they earn their cost in some setups and not in others, and we tell you which.

Do you handle gas and electric connections?+

We coordinate licensed gas plumbers and licensed electricians for the connections — Virginia code requires licensed trades for those, and we don't pretend otherwise. We schedule them, supervise the rough-in, and pass inspection alongside our work.

How long does installation take?+

Most outdoor kitchens take 3–6 weeks on-site once we start, depending on size, whether we're building a new patio underneath, and lead times on stone caps. We stage the work so you're not living next to a construction site any longer than necessary.

Can you match the existing patio?+

Yes. Matching the patio is half the design — we use the same stone veneer family or contrast it intentionally. If the existing patio is undersized for the kitchen footprint, we extend it as part of the project so the proportions actually work.

What materials work best in Virginia weather?+

Full-thickness stone veneer (not the thin manufactured stuff), freeze-resistant mortar rated to ASTM C270, granite or quartzite counter caps, 304-grade stainless-steel grill housings and cabinets. Skip the cheaper materials — outdoor kitchens fail fast in Mid-Atlantic freeze-thaw if the spec is wrong.
